HENGWM-ANNEDD, Nant-y-Moch, Ceredigon 2011 - CEREDIGION FARMS & COTTAGES
Notes on NEUADD FACH & HENGWM-ANNEDD, Nant-y-Moch, Ceredigon 2011

Two houses just a stones throw from one another. Neuadd Fach actually stands in Powys (Montgomeryshire) and Hengwm-Annedd across the river Hengwm stands in Ceredigion.

An emotional day visiting the ancient hills around Nant-y-Moch – the village of Nant-y-Moch was drowned by the building of the reservoir – most of the farmsteads and cottages were abandoned early 1960’s. Photographs and stories of these hills farmers can be found in the 2005 publication by Erwyd Howells’ ‘Good Men and True’
(ISBN 0-9551736-0-4)

Little remains of Neuadd Fawr – the roof finally caving in about ten years ago – one chimney remains and a solitary tree beside the house – This valley once full of life and thickly wooded with Birch is now become an open and empty landscape – the land wet and boggy.
Little too remains of Henwgm. The heavy rain, and true to the name 'Nant-y-Moch', made the river Hengwm too deep, too fast flowing to cross. There was once a foot bridge but that has long gone. I was forced to photograph the house from across the river. Hengwm-Annedd was abandoned in 1935.

Photo comment By Nerys Lockyer: With all the water disappearing slowly from Nant y Moch reservoir this summer a little trip up to the dam brings back memories from stories told by grandparents. I do believe that my grandmother was born in Hengwm- annedd and the reason I believe they left was due to her mother dying at her birth in the house. These history lessons were great from family members and if you have anymore information or pictures of the house it would be amazing to hear about it. Nerys
Photo comment By Geraint Davies: Was told that a Lewis Micha owned Hengwm in the 1969’s.
